Negative Still Image Collection, 1940-1986.

The collection includes about 360,000 still image photographic negatives created by the JPL Photolab, with accompanying filing logs. The photographs include images taken in support of the research and development activity of the Laboratory as well as portraits of individuals and groups of Laboratory people. Photographs of construction and remodeling of JPL structures are included, as well as photographs documenting equipment built and deployed by the Laboratory. Photographs taken after 1959 include data images taken by various JPL spacecraft and photographs of those spacecraft under construction.

One of the first people hired at GALCIT Project #1 in November 1941 was photographer George Emmerson (1913-1994), an emigrant from Newcastle, Great Britain. Audrey Voice and Mary J.
